How to get to Falmouth

Travel to Falmouth by Road

Thanks to the recent upgrade of the A30, Cornwall’s main trunk road, it now takes less than five hours to drive from London to Falmouth.

Head along the M4 Motorway from London, or M6 from Manchester, you then join the M5 to Exeter before arriving onto the A30, or occasionally the A38 which winds you through Plymouth and Saltash into South East Cornwall.

Thanks to Cornwall’s popularity, our roads experience a high volume of traffic during the peak summer months. This does mean that some routes can become congested, especially at weekends, so we advise planning ahead and perhaps travelling overnight or outside peak rush hours to avoid long delays.

To plan your journey we suggest you use Waze or Google Maps, both of which will provide you with real-time traffic information. It is also worth checking RAC Route Finder or the AA Route Planner to create a more detailed travel plan, complete with timings and mileage.

How to get to Falmouth by Rail or Coach

If you’re climbing aboard the train to travel to Falmouth then this should be a fairly seamless journey, with direct rail routes from London Paddington straight to Truro. On arrival into Truro it’s an easy platform change to catch the branch line train to Falmouth train station which is close to the town centre.

For coach passengers we advise travelling with National Express who operate frequent coach routes into Falmouth.

Fly to Cornwall

Cornwall is fortunate to have its own airport, located on the outskirts of Newquay. With the airport lying close to the coast, flying to Cornwall offers incredible views of the coastline as well as across the impressive China Clay works so keep camera’s at the ready!

You can fly from London Gatwick all year round with seasonal schedules operating from a range of local UK airports including Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Dublin, Belfast and Aberdeen. From Newquay Airport you will need to book a taxi to Falmouth, a road journey of approximately 45 minutes.

Alternatively, you can fly into either Exeter or Bristol Airport where you can continue on to Falmouth by train, road or coach.
